Early life
On November 24, 2020, Zach and Whitney Bates announced via People that they were expecting their fourth child, due June 2021. In their announcement, they shared a sonogram picture.
"We are so excited to share the news that we are expecting baby No. 4 in June 2021! There's no way to describe the joy in our hearts right now. It feels like all of our free time is spent talking about and planning for this new little blessing that will soon fill our home with smiles and giggles. Brad and Kaci are already trying to guess the gender, and we feel like each day is a celebration just anticipating baby No. 4 joining our family! Shortly after we found out we were pregnant, Zach unfortunately contracted COVID-19 at his work and Whitney ended up testing positive as well. It was a rough couple weeks for our family, with a lot of prayers going up for the new baby, but we thankfully have all recovered and feel healthy again. Knowing that COVID-19 can cause side effects in pregnancies, even after it has run its course, we are working closely with Dr. Vick to ensure the health and safety of our new little one, and so far everything is looking perfect! We greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers and thank you for all your love and support and excitement for our family through this special time!"
On January 27, 2021, Zach and Whitney announced that they were having a boy and that they were naming him Jayden Carl. His initials and middle name were in honor of his maternal grandfather, James Perkins.
His birth was announced on June 9, 2021. Jadon Carl Bates was born at 5:15 p.m. on June 7, 2021. He weighed 7 pounds and 6 ounces.
" Shortly after [Jadon’s birth], his O2 levels dropped and he was transferred to NICU at East TN Children’s Hospital. As of right now, he is stable and responding well to treatment. They will continue treatment and monitoring until he is strong enough to come home,” Whitney and Zach shared. “We are so grateful to God for taking care of our little boy and thankful for the doctors and nurses working hard to get baby J healthy and ready to meet his big brother and sisters. Life doesn’t always go as planned, but we’re thankful we can trust in the Lord with confidence that His plan is always perfect."
On June 9, 2021, his oxygen levels kept dropping and his right lung collapsed. The doctors intubated him and put him on a ventilator. He was given a chest tube to help him breathe. On June 13, 2021, the doctors removed the chest tube. They gradually removed his central line, took him off of all oxygen, and they were even able to remove his feeding tube. He was released from the hospital on June 16, 2021.
